Giving an outlet for local news, events and sports.
We excitedly follow the Plattsburgh Cardinals hockey team in winter months and local high school sports in the area.
WIRY also works with local agencies and organizations to give shout outs, announcements, or notifications to the community at large. Additionally we do our best to cross post and share the local scene on our social media channels.
I was looking for some way to put my music to some service on a nightly basis. You go into a town, you play a little music, you leave something behind. That idea connected us to the local community. It was a very simple idea, but it really resonated with me.
Established in 1950, revamped in 2023 -
WIRY continues to play the classics, talk local sports and stream beyond the airwaves!
WIRY is an AM radio station licensed to Plattsburgh, New York in the Champlain Valley.
The locally owned and operated radio station broadcasts at 1340 kHz into a Valcom whip antenna (one of the few stations still in operation) with a catalog of music from classic hits, rock and roll, blended with some country too.
In addition, the station also streams on the Internet. It has streamed continuously since prior to 2002 and survived the Internet radio bust that forced many stations to stop streaming at that time.
WIRY is proudly locally operated and staffed, and hosts a live local morning show and extensive local news and sports bureaus,. We follow the Plattsburgh Cardinals hockey team in winter months and local high school sports in the area.
